Home lighting that feels cosy
One ceiling light makes a room flat. With light at different heights and a warm colour, the same room feels cosy at once.
Light at three heights
Combine general light (a pendant), low mood light (a table or floor lamp in a corner) and task light where you read or work. Then you're never left with only harsh light from above in the evening.
Warm or cool: colour temperature
Light colour is given in Kelvin. Around 2700 K is warm white, like the old incandescent bulb: ideal for living rooms and bedrooms. Higher values are cooler and suit a workspace or bathroom better.
How bright: lumens, not watts
With LED lamps, watts say little about brightness; look at lumens. Dimmable lamps give you the most freedom: bright for tidying up, soft for a film.
The pendant above the table
Hang a lamp over the dining table low enough that the light falls on the table, not in your eyes. Over a long table, two or three smaller lamps often work better than one big one.
